Cougars Land in Top-10 at Bruin Wave Invitational

TARZANA, Calif. – Washington State Women's Golf had a strong finish to the Bruin Wave Invitational moving up one place on the leader board to finish tenth overall (+65, 929). The Cougars finished higher than ranked UNLV (43-golfstat) and San Diego State (44-golfstat) teams. USC won the tournament (-1, 863), followed by co-host Pepperdine in second (+12, 876) and co-host UCLA rounding out the top three (+22, 886).

Senior, Mallory Kent, was the top finisher for WSU ending tied for 23rd. Kent scored a 228 (+12) and carded eight birdies on the day.

Junior, Kristen Rue, moved up the leader board nearly missing the top-25 finishing tied for 26th. Rue carded her lowest round of 75 and scored 229 overall (+13).

Sophomore, Monica Huang, made the biggest jump the rankings moving up 19 spots to finish 64th overall (+26, 242).

"We got off to a shaky start today, but fought hard and finished the tournament strong," said Head Coach Kelli Kamimura. "El Cabellero Country Club was playing very difficult this week. With the storms that hit LA, they were unable to cut the rough and it was five to eight inches long on a narrow golf course. The relentless determination from the team was impressive and we improved 14 strokes from our finish last year at the Bruin/Wave. We are looking forward to our next event in Hawaii next week!"

Next up for the Cougars is the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Mar. 11-12 in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
