TEMPE, Ariz. – Elizaveta Luzina and Maria Biryukova each posted wins but it was not enough as No. 25 Arizona State posted a 4-2 victory over No. 50 Washington State Saturday morning at the Whiteman Tennis Center. With the loss the Cougars fall to 15-5 overall (1-3 Pac-12 play) while the Sun Devils improve to 16-2 (3-0).

Arizona State captured the opening doubles point as Alexandra Osborne and Leighann Sahagun defeated Olga Musilovich and Biryukova at No. 2, 8-6. Stephanie Vlad and Joanna Smith had earlier defeated Charlotte Koning and Dajana Ognjenovic at No. 3, 8-3. The remaining match between WSU's Elizaveta Luzina and Lize Leenknecht and ASU's Desirae Krawczyk and Kassidy Jim was stopped with the Cougar duo leading 7-6.

In singles play the Cougars quickly tied it up and even took a brief lead. At No. 1 Luzina posted a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Vlad, the nation's 50th-ranked player. Biryukova then gave WSU its only lead of the day as she posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sahagun at No. 3.

The sun Devils evened the score when Jump defeated Musilovich 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 then moved ahead 3-2 as Ebony Panoho rode a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ognjenovic at No. 5.

Washington State had won the first sets at both No. 2 and No. 6 but could not maintain the momentum to close out the match. At No. 2 Leenknecht captured a 7-5 first set over Krawczyk and battled in the second before falling in the clinching match, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 6 Koning won the first set against Smith 6-4, lost the second 4-6, and was trailing 1-2 when the match was stopped.

The Cougars are next in action Friday when they travel to Los Angeles to face No. 2 UCLA. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
