WSU Falls to Border-Rival Idaho

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Mike Scott and Connor Hill both scored 19 points Wednesday night to lead Idaho to a 77-71 nonconference win over Washington State.

Sekou Wiggs added 12 points for the Vandals (3-3), who had lost 11 consecutive games against Washington State (3-4) since a 62-58 victory on Dec. 4, 2002. The Cougars had defeated Idaho in 13 straight home games since losing 56-52 on Dec. 14, 1989.

DaVonté Lacy led Washington State with 17 points, but was 5 for 18 from the field, including 3 for 13 on 3-pointers. Josh Hawkinson had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Ike Iroegbu scored 13 points.

The Vandals bolted to a 14-2 lead but trailed for brief periods early in the second half. Idaho led 32-31 at halftime.

The Vandals shot 35.2 percent from the field and 36.8 percent on 3-pointers. The Cougars shot 35.2 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from distance.

WSU sank only 5 of 30 shots from 3-point range. The Vandals, led by Hill's 5-for-9 effort, went 7 for 19 from beyond the arc. Idaho came into the game shooting 40.9 percent on 3-pointers, but the Cougars often left the Vandals surprisingly wide open on 3-point shots.

Idaho's Bira Seck led all players with 11 rebounds and added nine points. The Vandals outrebounded WSU 44-41.

Hawkinson's double-double was his third of the year. The sophomore forward averaged just 1.2 points and 1.6 rebounds last season, when his season highs were six points and six rebounds.
