IRVINE, Calif. – Washington State scored a pair of goals in each half to post a 4-0 victory at UC Irvine in women's soccer, Sunday.

With the victory, the Cougars (7-0-2) wrapped up the nonconference portion of their schedule undefeated and extended their unbeaten streak to 13, the second-longest active streak in the country.

“We played well from beginning to end,” Washington State Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. “The early goal got us going and we had our best performance of the season. We beat a good team today because we gave a complete team effort.”

Senior Micaela Castain notched her team-leading 10th goal of the season less than three minutes into the match when she converted a turnover at the top of the box by hammering a shot just under the crossbar.

In the 23rd minute, senior Delaney Zalud served a free kick into the box that junior Nicole Setterlund finished inside the left post for a 2-0 advantage.

Junior Jocelyn Jeffers made it 3-0 in the 61st minute with a header in the box off a cross from the left by sophomore Mariah Powers. The Cougars added a goal in the 88th minute off a 2v1 situation on the left side. Castain slipped a pass to junior Mesa Owsley, who slotted the ball past the UC Irvine (5-4-0) goalkeeper.

The Cougars held the Anteaters without a shot in the first half and finished with a 10-7 edge. UC Irvine earned five corner kicks to Washington State's two.

The Cougars open Pac-12 play at Oregon, Thursday at 7 p.m. The match will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
