Cougar Soccer Blanks Cal State Fullerton

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. – Senior Micaela Castain's first half goal lifted visiting Washington State to a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton in nonconference women's soccer, Friday night.

With the victory, the Cougars (6-0-2) extended their school-record unbeaten streak to 12 and handed the Titans (3-3-2) their first home loss of the season.

“Cal State Fullerton played very well and made things very difficult for us,” Washington State Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. “Our kids did a good job to stay focused and compact in the back. Micaela Castain was big for us again tonight. It was a match played at a conference and postseason level.”

Castain missed a chance to give the Cougars the lead in the 22nd minute when she failed to convert a penalty kick. She made up for it in the 32nd minute with her fifth goal in the last-three matches. Kourtney Guetlein drove in from the right side and slipped a pass to Castain. The senior forward roofed a shot from six yards out for the game-winner.

Washington State concludes its road trip and nonconference schedule, Sunday at UC Irvine with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
