Former soccer All-American Wendy Jones has completed two seasons with the Washington State women's soccer program as an assistant coach. In addition to her coaching duties, the California native serves as the WSU summer camp coordinator.
Jones, 26, earned All-America soccer honors in 1993, as a sophomore at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where Tobias was an assistant coach. That same year which saw the Mustangs fall to Franklin Pierce College in the championship match of the NCAA Div. II Final Four tournament, she earned first team all-conference honors, All-Far West Regional first team honors and was also named to the Final Four all-tournament team.
A four-time varsity letterwinner for Cal Poly SLO, she captained the team as a junior and senior. Before joining the Cougar staff, she played for the Silicon Valley Red Devils of the women's Premier Soccer League.
Prior to collegiate coaching, Jones served as head coach for three different youth club soccer teams in Danville and San Luis Obispo. Jones was also an instructor at various soccer camps at Cal Poly.
“We as a program, and myself in particular, are ecstatic to have Wendy Jones as a part of our coaching staff,” Tobias said. “She was an outstanding player in college as an All-American and is also an outstanding person. We think she'll be a major contributor to the success of WSU soccer."
Jones graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1996 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education and kinesiology, and a specialization in athletic training. She was born Nov. 21, 1974, in Torrance, Calif.
