PULLMAN, Wash. -
The No. 20 Stanford Cardinal's swept all six singles matches en route to a 7-0 victory over No. 73 Washington State Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cougars (10-4) dropped all three doubles matches to open the day, relinquishing the doubles point to Stanford (7-2). At No. 1, the Cougar duo of Liudmila Vasilieva and Lize Leenknecht faced similar challenges at No. 2, falling 8-1 to the Stanford pairing of Stacey Tan and Ellen Tsay. WSU's Andjela Kankaras and Ksenia Googe dropped their match to Natalie Dillon and Krista Hardebeck 8-4, at No. 3.
Singles action yielded similar results for the Cougars. Freshman Leenknecht provided the best performance for WSU at No. 6. Leenknecht won the first set but could not close out the match as she fell to Amelia Herring in a third-set tiebreaker, falling 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6). Musilovich saw her dual match win streak come to an end at 12 as she lost to No. 31 Ellen Tsay 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5.
At No. 1, Vasilieva fell to No. 87 Gibbs, 6-1, 6-1 while No. 48 Ahn bested Googe 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Kankaras fell to No. 14 Hardebeck 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 and No. 103 Tan had little trouble with Luzina 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4.
The Cougars are next in action Tuesday morning when they take on UNLV at 10 a.m. PT.
