March 22, 2013

PULLMAN, Wash. - Olga Musilovich provided the lone bright spot for Washington State as the No. 60 Cougars fell to No. 4 UCLA, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.

With the loss the Cougars fall to 11-6 on the season, 1-3 in Pac-12 play. UCLA improves to 12-2 overall, 3-0 in conference action.

Musilovich, playing No. 5 singles, had her work cut out for her, facing No. 85 Catherine Harrison. Musilovich started off strong, taking the first set 6-4. Carrying the momentum, the Cougar junior took the second set, defeating Harrison 6-4, 6-3. The win improves Musilovich's dual match record to 15-1 on the season.

After splitting the first two sets at No. 4, Andjela Kankaras was forced to retire due to an ankle injury. The match finished 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 in favor of UCLA's No. 95 Chanelle Van Nguyen.

At No. 3, Ksenia Googe had similar results at No. 2, falling 6-2, 6-2 to No. 86 Pamela Montez. At No. 1, after dropping the first set, Liudmila Vasilieva was up 4-1 in the second set. She could not hold onto the lead though, falling 6-1, 6-4 to No. 5 Robin Anderson. Charlotte Koning wrapped up play for the Cougars, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Courtney Dolehide.

In doubles action, the Cougars battled at No. 2 and 3 before surrendering the doubles point. At No. 1, the pairing of Vasilieva and Googe fell to UCLA's Montez and Dolehide, the nation's 12th-ranked team, 8-2.
