LOS ANGELES – Junior Mesa Owsley recorded a goal and as assist to lift Washington State past host USC 2-0, Sunday in Pac-12 Conference women's soccer.

It was the first-three point match of Owsley's career as the Cougars (8-1-3, 1-1-1 Pac-12) notched their ninth shutout of the season.

“It was a great road win,” Washington State Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. “It wasn't the prettiest soccer game, but we came out with the right attitude and the right emotion. Our defense and (goalkeeper) Gurveen Clair were fantastic. Getting Mesa Owsley in, having her contribute and seeing Kourtney Guetlein score a goal are good signs for us. It was a tremendous way to end our stretch of six-straight road games.”

Owsley gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead on a free kick from 30 yards out on the right side at 36:07. The shot sailed over the outstretched hand of USC (5-6-1, 0-3-0 Pac-12) goalkeeper Caroline Stanley and under the crossbar.

In the second half, Owsley played a through ball to Guetlein up the left side. Guetlein fired a shot inside the far post past an oncoming Stanley.

The Cougars return home to play Colorado, Friday at 2 p.m.
