CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Washington State women's golf team carded the best team score in the final round of the Oregon State Invitational and maintained their spot at second place for the tournament.
The Cougar women put forth a combined effort of 1-under in the third round to end the tournament 14-over par. Lindsay Harmon continued to lead the surge for WSU with her career best score of 69 (-3) in the final round, finishing in a career-best second place overall. She was 4-under at the tournament's conclusion, a mere one stroke behind tournament champion Charlotte Thomas, of Washington.
Kristen Rue and Emma Betland of WSU joined Harmon with top 20 finishes, concluding the competition in 16th and tied for 19th, respectively.
Freshman Rachel Lewis also finished strong for Washington State, climbing 15 spots in the final round to tie for 23rd place on the player leaderboard. Lewis was 1-over par on the day and 10-over for the tournament.
Among the 14 teams bested by the WSU women's squad in the Invitational were regional rivals Gonzaga and Idaho, as well as tournament host and conference opponent Oregon State.
"I'm really proud of our team," Cougar Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said. "Our girls played really well. Lindsay has been working really hard, and she ended her round with a birdie, so I'm very proud of her."
Next week, the Cougar women will stay home to host the WSU Cougar Cup at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course. The tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday.
