TUSCON, Ariz. - Washington State swimming swam hard, but fell short of a win against Pac-12 opponent Arizona, Friday. The Wildcats, who are fresh off a fifth place finish at NCAAs last season, earned 119 points to the Cougars 75.

"Arizona is one of the best teams in the country and a great sprint program," Cougar Head Coach Tom Jager said. "I am proud of our athletes. Our kids did a great job of meeting our expectations."

Arizona started the meet off to a strong start taking first and second place in the 200 medley relay. Sophomore, Haley Anderson, stepped up for the Cougars tying for first as the top individual scorer for WSU. Anderson finished second in the 1000 free and 500 free with times of 10:41.42 and 5:12.90, respectively, improving both times by almost five seconds from the start of the season.

Anderson shared the top spot with freshman, Loree Olson, who also tacked on eight points for the Cougars. Olson touched the wall in third place in the 200 back and 200 IM as well as finishing fourth in the 200 breaststroke.

The Cougars continue their road trip and travel to Arizona State to take on the Sun Devils and Grand Canyon in Tempe, Ariz, Oct. 27, 2012.
