Day 1 Results Cougar Classic

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's tennis team completed a successful first day at the 2011 Cougar Classic at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Cougars had eight players advance to the semifinals in singles and four doubles teams are playing in the semifinals.

In the Flight 1 singles bracket senior Elisabeth Fournier and junior Liudmila Vasilieva advance to the third round. Following a first round bye, Fournier defeated Wena Tsan of Montana State 6-0, 6-0. Vasilieva defeated Chrissy Uriarte of Eastern Washington 6-1, 6-1.

In the Flight 2 singles bracket junior Andjela Kankaras defeated Ellie Crum of Montana State 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Elizaveta Luzina swept Anna Lambert of Seattle University 6-0, 6-0. In the Flight 3 singles bracket junior Ksenia Googe defeated Kelly Humphrey of Gonzaga 6-1, 6-0 and sophomore Olga Musilovich beat Maddy Murray of Montana 6-4, 6-2.

Finally, in Flight 4 freshman Anastasia Romantsova and junior Erin Troedson came out with wins. Romantsova defeated Erin McClaran of Portland State 6-0, 6-1. Troedson defeated Dayhuff of LCSC 6-0, 6-1.

The Cougars advance four doubles teams into the semifinals. In Flight 1 Musilovich/Googe defeated Warner/Patton of Eastern Washington 8-1 and Parker/Humphrey of Gonzaga 8-1. Kankaras/Koning defeated Hedberg/Uriarte of Eastern Washington 8-2 and Schwab/Wurden of Seattle 8-3. Musilovich/Googe will play Klamczyska/Pietzuch of Boise State and Kankaras/Koning will play Davidson/Pelchat of Montana in the semifinals.

In Flight 2 Vasilieva/Luzina defeated Ellingson/Hibbs of Eastern Washington 8-0 and Fairbotham/Bates of Montana State 8-0. Vasilieva/Luzina will face Knox/Flores of Idaho in the semifinals. Fournier/Romantsova defeated Ghadamosi/Mackey of Montana 9-7 and Todd/Vadali of Portland State 8-0. Fournier/Romantsova will face Ricks/Norena of Eastern Washington in the semifinals.

Play will resume Saturday morning at the WSU Outdoor Courts at 8:30 a.m.
