EUGENE, Ore.- The Washington State University women's tennis team defeated Oregon this afternoon 5-2 for its first Pacific-10 Conference victory. The Cougars finish the 2011 dual match season 13-10 overall, 1-7 in Pac-10 play.

Oregon scored the first point by winning two of three doubles matches. Elisabeth Fournier and Lea Jansen defeated Siobhan Cavan and Rabea Stuckeman at No. 3 8-2. No. 76 Liudmila Vasilieva and Ksenia Googe fell to Patricia Skowronski and Paulina Smatova 8-2. In the No. 2 match Andjela Kankaras and Olga Musilovich lost to Julia Metzger and Trudie du Toit 8-6.

The Cougars came back with five singles victories to take the match from Oregon. Vasilieva beat Skowronski in the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-3. Googe took the victory in the No. 3 match over Metzger 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. In the No. 4 match Kankaras defeated du Toit 6-4, 6-1. Musilovich won 6-1, 6-1 over Stuckeman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Jessica Gomez came from behind to beat Lana Buttner at the No. 6 spot 0-6, 6-1, 7-6, (9-7) and clinch the match for WSU.

The only loss for the Cougars was at the No. 1 spot, Fournier fell to No. 102 Smatova 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Washington State will take the next weekend off to prepare for the Pac-10 Tournament April 8-May 1 in Ojai, Calif. Match times will be announced.
