PULLMAN, Wash.- The Washington State University women's tennis team battled No. 6 UCLA this afternoon at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts, but fell 7-0. The Cougar's lone victory came in the No. 1 doubles match.
In No. 1 doubles action, Liudmila Vasilieva and Ksenia Googe dominated the 13th-ranked duo of Courtney Dolehide and Andrea Remynse to upset the Bruins 8-3. The win marks the highest-ranked team a Cougar pair has defeated during Coach Hart's tenure.
In other doubles matches, Andjela Kankaras and Olga Musilovich fell at No. 2 to No. 27 McCall Jones and Noelle Hickey 8-2. In the No. 3 match Elisabeth Fournier and Lea Jansen were defeated 8-3 by Pamela Montez and Carling Seguso. The two victories clinched the first point of the match for UCLA.
In singles action, Jessica Gomez fell at the No. 6 spot to Nina Pantic 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 5 match Musilovich lost to Carling Seguso 6-1, 6-2. Fournier was defeated by No. 44 Hickey in the No. 2 match 6-1, 6-2. In No. 3 singles Googe fell to No. 61 Remynse. At No. 4 singles Kankaras lost a hard fought match to No. 90 Dolehide 6-4, 3-6, (12-14). Vasilieva lost to No. 58 Jones 6-2, 1-6, 2-6.
The Cougars return to the courts tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. to take on the No. 14 USC Trojans. The match will be held at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
