FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State scored five times in the second inning and went on to defeat Washington State 7-2 in nonconference baseball Saturday.

The No. 17 Bulldogs (14-2) did their damage in the second against Chad Arnold (0-1) who was making his season debut for the Cougars (9-7).

"We have embarrassed ourselves this weekend," Washington State Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "We have played a horrible brand of baseball and allowed a good team to dominate us."

The Cougars scored a run in the third on a walk to Cody Bartlett, a single by Jason Monda, one of his three hits, and an RBI-ground out by Taylor Ard.

The Bulldogs added two runs in the fourth against James Wise before the Cougars closed the scoring in the sixth on singles by Monda and Ard and a Fresno State error.

The series concludes Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
