PULLMAN, Wash. -
The Washington State University tennis team completed a sweep of the Montana schools Friday afternoon by defeating Montana State 7-0 the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. Earlier in the day the Cougars defeated Montana, 6-1.
With the victories the Cougars improve to 10-7 on the season.
The Cougars opened the match by taking all three doubles victories for the opening point.
In singles play, the Cougars posted straight-set wins at all six positions. Olga Musilovich was first off following a 6-1, 6-2 win over Andrea De La Torre at No. 4 while Elisabeth Fournier quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Wena Tsan at No. 2. It marked Fournier's 20th victory of the season, her third straight season of 20-plus wins.
Liudmila Vasilieva clinched the match for WSU with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 over Charlotte Hjalmarrson. Ksenia Googe earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Paulina Lopez Trevino at No. 3 while Andjela Kankaras had little trouble with Ellie Crum at No. 5, winning 6-0, 6-1. Jessica Gomez at No. 6 posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lucy Fairbothem to complete the sweep.
The Cougars continue their weekend homestand by hosting No. 20 Washington Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
