PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University tennis team snapped a six-match skid with a 6-1 victory over the University of Montana Friday morning at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.

The Cougars started off strong by sweeping the three doubles matches for the opening point. At No. 1 Liudmila Vasilieva and Ksenia Googe defeated Rebecca Bran and Whitney Paluch, 8-5. At No. 2 Andjela Kankaras and Olga Musilovich had little trouble with Heather Davidson and Lauren Gibson, 8-5, while Lea Jansen and Elisabeth Fournier secured the first win with an 8-3 victory over Constance Alexander and Ashley Mackey at No. 3.

In singles play, the Cougars quickly extended the lead to 3-0 as Vasilieva and Fournier posted identical 6-0, 6-2 victories at the top two spots. Vasilieva defeated Bran at No. 1 while Fournier defeated Alexander at No. 2. Musilovich clinched the match for WSU at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Davidson.

At No. 3, Googe rallied from a set down to defeat Paluch, 3-6, 6-2 (11-9), playing a 10-point tiebreaker for the third set as the team match was already decided. Kankaras earned the Cougars final point with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Mackey at No. 5. At No. 6 The Grizzlies picked up their lone point as Gibson defeated Jessica Gomez, 6-1, 6-3.
