PULLMAN, Wash.- The No. 74 Washington State University tennis team lost a close match to No. 44 Boise State 5-2 Saturday. The Cougars dropped the match to move to 8-2 on the season.

In doubles play, Elisabeth Fournier and Lea Jansen had the lone victory for the Cougars at No. 3 singles. They beat Morgan Basil and Sonia Klamczynska 8-5. Andjela Kankaras and Ksenia Googe fought hard at No. 2 doubles but fell to Stephanie Jasper and Sandy Vo. The cougar pair had two chances to break serve at 7-7 but could not capitalize on either.

In singles action, Googe won at No. 3 over Pietzuch 6-3, 6-1 to earn the Cougars' first point just before Fournier beat Megale at No. 1 7-5, 6-0 to give WSU a 2-1 lead.

Vasilieva fell in a hard fought match to Klamczynska at No. 2 6-4, 3-6, 4-6. At No. 4, Kankaras captured a second-set tiebreaker but could not pull out the come-from-behind victory, falling to Jasper 6-1, 6-7, 6-1. Marina Nicolas came back from a 4-0 deficit in the second set at No. 6 singles, but fell to Basil 2-6, 5-7, clinching the match for the Broncos. At No. 5 Musilovich split the first two sets against Vo, and with the team match already decided, the two played a 10-point tiebreaker for the third set, which Vo won 10-7.

The Cougars begin a two-week road trip Thursday Feb. 24 at No. 50 Sacramento State. WSU then travels to the Bay Area to open Pacific-10 Conference play and take on No. 1 Stanford Friday Feb. 25 and No. 5 California Saturday Feb. 26.
