AUSTIN, Tex.- The Washington State University women's golf team wrapped up its fall campaign Wednesday at the Challenge at Onion Creek, finishing in 11th place with a score of 916 (+76). Sophomore Mallory Kent led the Cougars at the Challenge at Onion Creek with an 8th place finish.
Kent fired a two-over 72 final round for a 219 (+9) to move up four places from the first day of play. She birdied at ten holes throughout the 54-hole tournament, doing so at the ninth hole each round. This is her second top-10 finish of her career, the other coming at the WSU Cougar Cup last year.
"Mallory had a great week," said Head Coach Kelli Kamimura. "An 8th place finish in a solid field is a great way to end the fall."
Senior Kristen Allard carded a 78 (+8) for a 229 (+19). Junior Ali Thompson posted a 75 (+5) for a 233 (+23) final score. Freshman Kristen Rue shot a 79 (+9) in the final round for a 235 while junior Emma Betland carded an 82 (+12) for an overall score of 248.
"We have grown a lot this fall. We are headed in a successful direction and have a lot to build on going into the off-season," commented Kamimura.
Competing as an individual for the Cougars, Junior Ellen Park posted an 82 (+12) in the third round for a 245.
The WSU women's golf team will be back in action in February when they travel to Oro Valley, Ariz. for the Arizona Wildcat Invitational.
