Pullman, Wash.- The Washington State University tennis team continued with their strong start to the 2011 dual match season by defeating Idaho 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. In the morning the Cougars beat Eastern Washington 7-0. The Cougars are now 4-0.

In afternoon doubles competition, Liudmila Vasilieva and Olga Musilovich defeated Vicky Lozano and Lauren Simpson, 8-2. Elisabeth Fournier and Lea Jansen then clinched the first point of the match for WSU with an 8-2 victory over Alejandra Lozano and Barbara Maciocha. Ksenia Googe and Andjela Kankaras completed the doubles sweep with a win over Molly Knox and Yvette Ly 8-6.

In singles action, No. 1 Vasilieva beat Simpson 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2 singles Fournier defeated V. Lozano 6-2, 6-4. Kankaras clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles over Maciochoa.

In other singles matches, Googe beat Silvia Irimescu 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3. At No. 5 singles Musilovich defeated Molly Knox.

The Cougars host Gonzaga tomorrow, Saturday Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. on the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
