WAIPAHU, Hawai'i - Senior Emma Stolz scored two goals and Washington State defeated host Hawai'i 3-0 at the Outriggers Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic, Friday.
Stolz gave the Cougars (3-6-0) a 1-0 lead at 22:48 when she put in a rebound after redshirt-senior Mallory Fox's shot was stopped by Hawai'i (2-6-0) goalkeeper Kanani Taaca. Just 37 seconds later, freshman Eileen Maes received a pass from sophomore Shannon McFadden and chipped a ball into the upper-right corner of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
"It was a good overall team performance," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "With all the injuries we have, it was a job well done to score multiple goals and share the wealth in terms of playing time."
In the 54th minute, Stolz capped the scoring when she knocked in a loose ball after a Washington State corner kick. Senior goalkeeper Meghan Berlingo earned the victory and made three saves in the shutout.
Washington State will conclude the tournament with a 10 p.m. Pacific Time match against Pepperdine, Saturday.
