PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University tennis team took on No. 64 nationally-ranked Brigham Young University but fell short, 4-3 at the Simmelink Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse Friday. The WSU Cougars are 2-1 on the season.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Liudmila Vasilieva and Elisabeth Fournier took on No. 18 nationally-ranked pair of McCall Jones and Megan Price. BYU fought back and tied the game at 7, then went on to win 9-7. BYU's Kristina doer and Romina Nedakovic defeated WSU's Andjela Kankaras and Marina Nicolas, 8-5. WSU avoided a sweep of the doubles matches with a win from No. 3 Jessica Gomez and Ksenia Googe, 9-8 (7-5) against Chie Hayasaka and Aubrey Paul.

In singles play, Ksenia Googe defeated Liza Ezhova, 6-0, 6-4, to tie the score 1-1. BYU took the lead when Marina Nicolas fell to Chie Hayasaka, 6-7, 2-6. Elisabeth Fournier won her match at No. 2 singles against Kristina Doerr, 6-3, 6-4, to tie the score again.

WSU took the lead 3-2 when Vasilieva upset No. 54 nationally-ranked McCall Jones, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). The score was tied 3-3 after Jessica Gomez was defeated by Romina Nedakovic, 6-1, 6-1. In the deciding match, Andjela Kankaras and BYU's Megan Price went to three sets, with Price prevailing, 5-7. 7-6, 6-4.

The Cougs return to the court Saturday, Jan. 23 to play No. 64 nationally-ranked Utah at the Simmelink Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
