IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Washington State Women's golf team finished ninth in the Hawkeye Invitational played at the par-72 Finkbine Golf Course. The team finished the second day with a score of 307 (+19) the lowest round of the tournament, but fell behind in the last round with a 324 (+36) for a tournament total of 948 (+84).
Freshman Ali Thompson for the fourth consecutive tournament has led the Cougars finishing with an 81 (+9) in the final round for a tournament total of 236 (+20) in a tie for 21st. Thompson has managed to land in the top-25 in three of her first four collegiate events, two of them being in the top five.
Fellow Freshman Emma Betland has found a consistent place right behind Thompson, finishing in second place on the team for the third time as well as making it in the top-25 for the third time. Betland carded an 80 (+8) today for a three-round total of 237 (+21) in a tie for 25th with teammate Kristen Allard who posted an 81 (+9) in round three making her second appearance in the top-25 this season.
Redshirt junior Allison Travis posted an 82 (+10) in round three for a tournament total of 243 (+27) tied for 45th. Freshman Ellen Park ended the tournament with a total of 251 (+35) in a tie for 63.
The team has a two week break before they travel to Texas for the Challenge at Onion Creek their last tournament of the fall season on Nov. 1, 2009.
