PULLMAN, Wash. - Junior Elysse Van Leer recorded a goal and an assist to lead Washington State to a 2-0 victory over visiting Idaho in nonconference women's soccer, Sunday.
Van Leer put Washington State (5-2-3) on top 1-0 at 8:38 when she poked a loose ball into the net after freshman Jacquelyn Roth played a free kick into the box.
In the 30th minute, Van Leer sent a cross into the box that junior Kiersten Dallstream played to junior Carly Dobratz. A shot by Dobratz from six yards out beat Idaho (1-8-1) goalkeeper Liz Boyden and the Cougars went up 2-0.
Sophomore Lindsay Parlee (four saves) and freshman Stephanie Phillips (two saves) combined for the shutout to give WSU its third-straight whitewash at home for the first time since 2003.
"I'm very pleased with what we are doing as a team defensively," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "To get another clean sheet in front of a good home crowd is another step forward for our season."
The Cougars conclude their nonconference season at home, Friday, Oct. 3 against Eastern Washington. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
