PULLMAN, Wash. - Mallory Fox scored on a free kick in the first half and Lindsay Parlee made six saves to lead Washington State to a 1-0 victory over visiting Gonzaga in nonconference women's soccer, Friday.
Fox, who scored for the second-straight match, took a free kick from the top of the circle and beat Gonzaga (4-6-0) goalkeeper Lauren Ames inside the near post at 24:39.
Parlee made the lead stand up for the Cougars (4-2-3) with big saves in the 56th and 63rd minute, respectively. The sophomore's effort helped the Cougars improved to 49-0-1 at home when leading at halftime over the last 18 seasons.
WSU earned at least one point for the 26th-straight match when holding an advantage at intermission and boosted its record against Gonzaga to 17-0-1 all-time.
"It was a battle and we were able to capitalize on our one quality opportunity in front of the goal," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "It was fun to have a solid performance in front of a good home crowd."
The Cougars continue their homestand with a 1 p.m. match, Sunday against Idaho.
