MALIBU, Calif. - Sophia Medina's second half goal lifted Pepperdine to a 1-0 victory over visiting Washington State in nonconference women's soccer, Sunday.

Medina's tally came at 56:32 when she directed a cross from the sideline past WSU (2-2-3) goalkeeper Lindsay Parlee.

"It was disappointing not necessarily because of the loss, but because we had a great effort Friday and gave an effort today that is not characteristic of our team," Cougar Head Coach Matt Potter said. "Credit Pepperdine for getting the goal needed to win the match in a scrappy game. We had some good individual efforts, but collectively, we did not do enough to win."

Pepperdine (3-3-1) outshot Washington State 18-5 and took all five corner kicks in the match. Parlee made seven saves for the Cougars.

Washington State will host Seattle in its home opener, Wednesday at 2 p.m.
