SAN DIEGO - Washington State women's rowing team completed a successful outing at the San Diego Crew Classic, Saturday, earning one second and two third place finishes.
"It's a great start to the year," said head coach Jane LaRiviere. "But everyone else is going to get faster, and we need to get faster, too."
The second varsity eight finished less than a second behind champion California in the race for the Hungness Trophy. The varsity eight turned in a time of 6:57:83, five seconds behind California, winner of the Jessop-Whittier Cup. In the novice petit final, WSU took third place.
The teams raced through blustery conditions, causing most crews to finish about 30 seconds slower than they did Saturday.
The Cougars return to their home state next Saturday to face Washington and Oregon State on the Montlake Cut in Seattle.
