LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Washington State University Cougars fell to the Bruins of UCLA, Friday, 7-0. The Bruins used four ranked singles players and one ranked doubles tandem to take down the Cougars. The loss drops the Cougars to 5-6 on the season and the Bruins move to 8-2.
Ekaterina Burduli, who found her way back into the rankings Tuesday, lost to No. 24 Laura Gordon, 6-1, 6-2. The Tel Aviv, Israel native is ranked No. 84 and has played 11 dual matches in the No. 1 with a record of 6-5 (14-9).
Junior Amy Toth was the only Cougar to take her opponent to all three sets. She won the first set 3-6, but dropped the second set, 6-1. The final set was close, but Toth fell to No. 37 Tracy Lin, 1-0 (10-7). Toth currently has an overall record of 14-8 and 6-5 in dual match play.
Doubles duo Maria Ring and Toth lost to No. 51 Elizabeth Lumpkin and Alex McGoodwin in the No.1 slot, 8-0. The loss still keeps the tandem in first place in dual match victories with six.
The Cougars will now gear up for No. 6 University of Southern California at Los Angeles, Calif. The match is scheduled for Saturday, March 11 at noon.
