LEWISTON, Idaho - The Washington State women's tennis team fell to the Stanford Cardinal, 7-0. Stanford is currently ranked No. 1 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The loss moves the Cougars to 4-4, while the Cardinal remains unbeaten at 10-0.
In singles play, freshman Aleksandra Cekic pushed her opponent to the brink, but was defeated by No. 64 Whitney Deason, 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10). Cekic remains above .500 with a record of 4-3 in dual match play.
Fellow freshman Bianca Selaru was handed her first loss in dual match play. The Zalau, Romania native lost at the hands of Lejla Hodzic, 7-6 (8), 6-1.
Doubles tandem Maria Ring and Amy Toth suffered their third loss in dual match play to No. 1 Alice Barnes and Anne Yelsey, 8-0. The WSU duo still leads the team in dual match victories with five.
The Cougars will get another chance at a top-10 team as they face No. 9 California, Saturday at 11 a.m. in Spokane.
