Boise, Idaho. - The Washington State University women's tennis team captured only one singles victory during the second round of competition at the Jack Taylor Classic. The Cougars lost seven out of eight singles matches against host Boise State at the Appleton Tennis Center.
WSU junior Ekaterina Burduli provided the lone win for the Cougars in single play. Burduli downed Boise State's Polina Kokoulina, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1. Burduli is now 2-0 at the Jack Taylor Classic. Aleksandra Stefanova and teammate Marjolein van de Ven took their opponents to a third set, but both players came up short in their attempt for a victory.
The Cougars played both Oregon and New Mexico in doubles play. The University of New Mexico took two of three double matches from the Cougars. The lone win in doubles play came from Stefanova and Amy Toth. The two easily took care of New Mexico's team of Abou-Zekry/Scott, 8-1. However, WSU also matched up with Oregon, but was swept by the Ducks 3-0 in doubles play.
The Cougars will wrap up the Jack Taylor Classic, Sunday, Oct. 9 and will play only single matches against New Mexico.
