LEWISTON, Idaho - The Washington State University Cougars took five of six singles matches against in-state rival Eastern Washington, on their way to a 6-1 victory over the Eagles.
Sophomore Ekaterina Burduli set the pace for the Cougars with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 match against WSU transfer Nelly Dvornicka. Burduli is currently ranked No. 59 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Burduli paired up with Aleksandra Stefanova to defeat Dvornicka and Rachel Berger, 8-2 earlier in the day.
WSU juniors Amy Toth and Marjolein van de Ven also won with ease. Toth was matched up against Sayaka Yoshimoto and defeated her 6-3, 6-2. The No. 81 singles player nationally, van de Ven defeated Illiana Petrova 6-1, 6-3 to improve her record to 10-3.
In the number one doubles slot Maria Ring and Toth faired well by defeating EWU's Kasey Knox and Petrova 8-1.
