EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Bryce Taylor scored 12 points, including the
game-winning basket with a minute left, to lead Oregon past Washington State
69-66 on Saturday.
Chamberlain Oguchi came off the bench to also score 12 for the Ducks (12-9
overall, 4-8 Pac-10), while Malik Hairston and Maarty Leunen each added 11
points.
The victory broke a six-game losing streak for Oregon that extended back to
the last time the two teams met on Jan. 15 in Pullman, Wash., when the Ducks
also won.
Derrick Low led Washington State (10-12, 5-8) with a career-high 19 points.
He had a chance to tie the game at the end, but his long 3-point attempt fell
short as the time expired.
Taylor gave Oregon a 67-66 lead with 1:02 remaining before he and Hairston
each scored a free throw in the final 25 seconds to push the lead to three
points.
Down 63-56 late in the second half, Washington State went on a 10-2 run to
take an eventual 66-65 lead following a pair of free throws by Kyle Weaver with
just under three minutes to play.
They turned out to be the last points of the game for the Cougars, who
didn't make a field goal in the final 4:23.
Hairston, who also recorded a game-high eight rebounds, scored eight of his
points in the opening minutes of the second half as the Ducks' two-point
halftime lead, 34-32, grew to as many as nine, 55-46.
The win was Oregon's 16th in 17 games against the Cougars, and the eighth
straight.
