PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Jeff Varem scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds
Thursday night as Washington State defeated Oregon State 63-45.
Freshman Kyle Weaver scored a season-high 12 points and Thomas Kelati added
11 for the Cougars (8-6, 3-2 Pacific-10).
David Lucas led Oregon State (10-5, 2-2) with 12 points and six rebounds.
Oregon State's 45 points and 31.1 percent shooting from the field were season
lows.
The 3-2 Pac-10 start is Washington State's best since a 5-2 start in
1994-95.
Oregon State's only lead was 1-0 but the Cougars scored the next 15 points.
The Beavers made an 11-0 run to pull within 24-23, but Washington State led
29-23 at the half and had an 8-2 start in the second half.
Oregon State played without starting guard J.S. Nash, who was suspended for
an undisclosed violation of team rules. Nash is Oregon State's third-leading
scorer, averaging 10.6 points per game,
The Beavers missed their first seven field-goal attempts.
The Cougars have produced their three highest point totals of the season in
the last three games.
WSU opened Thursday night's game 6-for-8 from the field, including 4-for-5
on 3-pointers.
