SEATTLE - Forward Mike Jensen sank a 3-pointer with 19.9 seconds left
and the Washington Huskies overcame a six-point deficit in the final minute to
edge Washington State 71-67 Thursday night.
It was the Huskies' eighth victory in their last nine Pac-10 games.
Washington (13-9, 8-7 Pac-10) swept the Cougars for the first time since the
2000 season. The Huskies won in Pullman last month.
Jensen's critical 3-pointer put Washington ahead 69-67 after Washington
State (11-13, 5-9) appeared to have the game wrapped up after two free throws
by Thomas Kelati with 1:04 left, giving the Cougars a 67-61 lead.
But Will Conroy sank a 3-pointer with 57.9 seconds to go for Washington and
Bobby Jones made a layup with 45.2 seconds on the clock for the Huskies that
cut the Washington State lead to 67-66.
Jensen got his opportunity to be the hero when the Cougars' Shami Gill
stepped on the end line to turn the ball over to the Huskies with 28.2 seconds
left.
Thomas Kelati missed a 3-point attempt with 6.8 seconds left and Conroy was
fouled by Gill after getting the rebound. Conroy then made two free throws to
complete the scoring for the night.
Kelati led Washington State with 24 points, including six 3-pointers, both
career highs.
For Washington, Conroy and Bobby Jones led the way with 15 points each,
while Brandon Roy added 13 points and Tre Simmons had 12 points, all on
3-pointers.
Washington State trailed 34-30 at halftime, but built up 8-point leads at
59-51 and 61-53.
