PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Stanford's Matt Lottich scored 17 points Thursday
night as the Cardinal rallied for a 73-68 overtime victory against Washington
State.
Stanford (12-4, 3-1 Pac-10) trailed 14-2 after five minutes, 40-26 at the
half and 44-33 early in the second half before scoring 18 unanswered points.
Washington State (5-9, 0-5) came back to take small leads during most of the
final six minutes, but the score was tied at 61 at the end of regulation after
WSU's Chris Schlatter missed the first of two free throws with 3.1 seconds
left.
Schlatter had 17 points for the Cougars, who have lost 13 in a row to
Stanford.
Julius Barnes, Stanford's only senior regular and the team leader with 14
points per game, scored eight of his 16 points in the final 6:20. His 3-pointer
with 23.8 seconds left in regulation gave the Cardinal a 61-60 lead, and he
sank 3 of 4 free throws in overtime.
Barnes also played strong defense down the stretch against rival point guard
Marcus Moore, who started the night as the Pac-10's leading scorer with 21
points per game. Moore, playing on an injured ankle, scored all seven of his
points in the first half. He went 3-for-14 from the field, including 0-for-7
after the first half.
The Cougars missed 6 of 12 free throws, including 3 of 6 in overtime.
Stanford, last in the Pac-10 in free-throw shooting percentage coming into the
game at 63 percent, made 18 of 27 free throws (72.7 percent).
