MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) - Tyrone Hayes had game-highs of 23 points, 10 rebounds
and four blocks as Idaho beat Washington State 62-58 Wednesday night and
snapped a five-game losing streak against the Cougars.
Idaho (3-1) avenged last year's 81-55 loss at WSU (2-2) by shutting down the
nation's third-leading scorer, Marcus Moore, who entered the game averaging 28
points per game but was held to two points on 1-for-11 shooting. Despite giving
up seven inches, Vandal sophomore Tanoris Shepard was able to hold Moore in
check.
Moore guarded Hayes in the first half and was out of rhythm on the offensive
end. Moore, who guarded Justin Logan in the second, still forced several shots
and missed others wide-open.
WSU's last lead was 46-44 as Idaho had field goals on four straight
possessions - including three 3-pointers - to take a nine-point lead with
4:50 remaining.
The Cougars cut the deficit to two points with 2:09 to go but that was as
close as they would get.
At 61-58 with five seconds left, Shepard sank two free throws to seal the
win.
Justin Lyman had a career-high 19 points to lead the Cougars. Moore had a
team-leading 10 rebounds.
