FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Matt Nelson had 18 points and Brian Greene added
15 points and eight rebounds as Colorado State defeated Washington State 90-79
on Saturday.
Quantone Smith and Matt Williams each had 13 points off the bench for
Colorado State (8-2). CSU was 32-for-47 on free throws, compared with 14-for-23
for Washington State.
Marcus Moore had 20 points for Washington State (3-4), 18 in the second
half. Milton Riley, Thomas Kelati and Justin Kordsmeier had 12 points each for
Washington State, which has lost four of its last five.
Colorado State led by as much as 56-36 after Nelson tipped in his own miss.
Moore brought Washington State back, scoring nine points in a 10-0 run that
made it 77-76 with 5:22 left.
Birley had a breakaway layup after a steal from Moore and then set up a
layup by Williams, giving CSU an 81-76 lead with 3:17 left.
Riley then missed two free throws and Moore missed three straight shots for
Washington State.
Birley and Greene sealed the game with two free throws each.
CSU is undefeated at home and has won the last eight meetings between the
two teams, last losing to Washington State in 1946.
