PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Marcus Moore tied his career high with 35 points and
grabbed seven rebounds as Washington State defeated San Jose State
76-68 Saturday in the season opener for both teams.
Moore scored 26 points in the second half, and the Cougars led for the final
18:36. WSU led only 30-28 at halftime.
Carlton Baker led San Jose State with 24 points and 12 rebounds, but he made
just 10 of 29 shots and went 4-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Spartans
shot 37 percent, including 23 percent on 3-pointers.
The Spartans outrebounded the Cougars 52-36, but WSU had an 8-0 advantage in
blocked shots.
The Cougars shot 53 percent in the second half after shooting just 31
percent in the first half.
Justin Lyman added 15 points for WSU.
San Jose State's Antonio Lawrence had 12 points, eight rebounds, three
assists and three steals off the bench.
San Jose State, from the Western Athletic Conference, fell to 0-7 against
Pac-10 teams since beating Stanford 56-52 on Dec. 3, 1992.
