INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - David Bluthenthal scored 16 points as Southern Cal
defeated Washington State, 85-64, Friday night in a Pacific-10 Conference game.
Brandon Granville and Desmon Farmer also scored 15 points each for Southern
Cal, while Sam Clancy added 14 and freshman center Rory O'Neil contributed 11
off the bench. The Trojans (11-2, 3-0 in conference play) won their seventh
consecutive game.
Marcus Moore had 15, Milton Riley 14 and Mike Bush 10 points for Washington
State (4-7, 0-2) before a crowd of 3,923 at the Great Western Forum. The game
was played at the Forum because Southern California's usual court, the Los
Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, is being used for practice for the U.S. Figure
Skating Championships.
The Trojans took the lead for good midway through the first half, scoring
six unanswered points to break an 18-18 tie. Southern California went on a 10-1
later in the first half and went in leading 44-31 at halftime.
Granville's 3-point basket began a 7-0 run which put Southern California
ahead, 57-38, with 13:45 to play. After a basket by Bush stopped that run, the
Trojans outscored the Cougars, 11-1, increasing its lead to 26 points, 68-42,
with 8:36 left.
Clancy moved into 10th place on the Trojans' career scoring list with his
first basket. He has 1,261 points in his collegiate career, 57 behind Gus
Williams, who is ninth on the Trojans' career list.
Southern California increased its wining streak over Washington State to
seven games.
