AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Chris Owens scored 19 points to lead Texas to a 79-52
win over Washington State Monday night.
Owens was perfect from the field, hitting all eight of his attempts in 23
minutes of play.
Texas (4-3) used a 22-2 run in the first half, and a 19-2 spurt in the
second to pull away from Washington State (4-3).
Owens scored nine points in Texas' first-half run, which was ignited by T.J.
Ford's fast-break alley-oop pass to Brian Mouton for a slam. Ford capped off
the run with passes to Jason Klotz and Royal Ivey for layups.
Texas led 48-29 early in the second half before putting the game away with
its second big run of the game. Ivey and Sydmill Harris hit 3-pointers during
the rally in which Texas built its lead to 67-31 with 10:47 to play.
Ivey, who was six-for-six from the field, finished the game with 13 points
for Texas.
Texas handed Washington State its worst non-conference loss since a 98-52
loss to Michigan State in 1978.
Jerry McNair led Washington State with 14 points and Thomas Kelati had 10
rebounds.
