MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Ryan Pederson hit a three-point basket with 1:43 left
to give Montana the lead, then made three of four free throws in the final 17
seconds as the Grizzlies defeated Pac-10 Washington State 75-71 Wednesday
night.
The Grizzlies (3-2) of the Big Sky Conference trailed only once, when J
Locklier's free throw with 2:08 to go gave Washington State (1-2) a 60-59 lead.
Pederson's three-pointer started a 10-1 Montana run that left the Cougars
trailing 69-61 with 40 seconds to play.
Mike Bush scored eight points for the Cougars in the final 36 seconds to
pull Washington State to within 73-71 with less than seven seconds remaining.
Pederson then sank two free throws with 5.6 seconds to play.
Brent Cummings, who is from Pullman, Wash., led Montana with 17 points,
making 5-of-6 shots and all six of his free throws.
Dan Trammel added 14 points, but he was one of four Grizzlies to foul out.
Bush led Washington State with 24 points and Locklier had 19.
The Cougars were just 17-of-29 on foul shots, Montana made 28-of-36.
