Sept. 29, 2000

Box Score

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University soccer team expanded its win streak to four today in a 4-2 victory over 1999 Big Sky Champions, Montana. The Grizzlies (6-3-1) had the lead twice, but the Cougars (7-2-0) always had an answer.

After 20 minutes of play Montana's Jodi Campbell started things off after she dribbled in a pass from Heather Olson and finished it.

The Cougs leading scorer Deka DeWitt (Auburn, Wash.) subbed in on the kickoff and hammered a shot from 30 feet out to tie the game 40 seconds later. DeWitt also assisted the game-winner on a cross to Natalie Kehl (Spokane, Wash.) in the 76th minute, which broke the school record for career assists with 15. DeWitt came up big one last time with less than 10 minutes on the clock to seal the victory on an open net goal off a pass from Rachel Rodrick (University Place, Wash.), her sixth of the season.

"I think we could have played better, we had some breakdowns. We just had some mistakes mentally that the other team capitalized on," senior co-captain DeWitt said about today's performance.

With her first career start, freshman Jessica Allen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) also picked up her first career goal off a pass from Liz Duncan (Richland, Wash.), to give the Cougs the lead at halftime.

After a 2-1 halftime lead, the Grizzlies came back hungry and 10 minutes into play Amy Wronski finished a ball from teammates Jodi Campbell and Amy Schlatter.

"I though physically that they out-muscled us all over the field and a lot of the one-on-one battles that we needed to win and should win on a regular basis, we were definitely on the down side. We're going to watch some film tomorrow so they can see that," Tobias said happy with Friday's end result but keeping in mind the tough Pac-10 schedule that begins in a week.

The Cougs have one more non-conference game this season, a Sunday match-up with UNLV at 1 p.m. PT where they will try to hold on to an unbeaten home record and continue their run to the best season in Cougar history.
