PULLMAN, Wash. (AP and staff sources) - Brian Jackson scored 19 points, including six in the final four minutes, as Oregon State edged Washington State 77-73 Thursday night in a matchup of Pac-10 teams.

Oregon State (9-6, 1-3 in league play) posted its first victory in Pullman since 1990.

Washington State (5-9, 0-5) dropped its sixth game in a row.

Washington State closed to within one, at 70-69, on a Mike Bush 3-pointer with 2:33 left in the game.

Jackson then scored a pair of baskets for the Beavers.

Bush, who finished with 18 points, followed with a layup and was fouled. He missed the free throw, but David Adams collected the rebound and layed the ball back in to cut OSU's lead to 74-73 with 1:07 left.

Deaundra Tanner made a basket and the subsequent free throw for the final score with 35 seconds left.

The Beavers led 35-30 at halftime.

With 13:49 left in the game, Adams' 3-pointer lifted WSU to a 45-44 lead. The lead changed hands the rest of the half.

Adams led the Cougars with a career-high 20 points, hitting all four of his three pointers. Jan-Michael Thomas had 18 points for the Cougars.

Adam Masten added 15 points for the Beavers. Clifton Jones had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams put on a display of long-range shooting. The Beavers made nine-of-19 3-point attempts in the game. Washington State sank 10-of-19 from long range.

WSU shot better from the field than the Beavers, 51 percent to 50 percent, but struggled at the free throw line, hitting 52 percent (9-of-17). The Beavers also out-rebounded WSU by eight, 36-28, which was the Cougars' largest rebounding deficit since the Portland State game (10).

WSU started the game with just nine players available and played the second half with just eight. Not suited for the game were freshmen Bryan Whitehead (knee) and Nick Graham (ankle). Junior forward Tyrone Evans played five minutes in the first half, but reinjured his right hand that he cut during practice Monday. The tissue surrounding cut, which required 10 stitches, became too tender to allow Evans to play in the second half.

Evans will rest Friday and have the hand wrapped again Saturday and attempt to play against Oregon. Whitehead is questionable versus the Ducks, while Graham's injury will keep him sidelined for another month.

The Cougars host Oregon, an overtime winner at Washington Thursday night, Saturday at 5 p.m. at Friel Court.
