PULLMAN, Wash. -- Sophomore third baseman Michael Done went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to lead the visiting Washington Huskies to a 16-6 non-conference victory over the Washington State Cougars Tuesday afternoon at Bailey-Brayton Field.

Washington improved to 11-15 with the win, while the Cougs fell to 14-18.

Husky starter Matt Massingale battled through gusty wind conditions to pick up the win on the mound to even his season record at 3-3. The junior right-hander kept Cougar bats at bay, allowing only three runs in six innings.

WSU starter Tyson Thompson continues to battle control problems as he fell to 1-5 on the year. Thompson gave up six runs and four hits in just 2.2 innings. In all, the Cougar pitching staff combined to walk nine, hit three batters and throw three wild pitches in the loss. The Cougar defense was also suspect with four errors.

The Huskies jumped out to a quick lead in the first frame when senior Ed Erickson drove home shortstop Tila Reynolds to give UW the early advantage. After a scoreless second, the Huskies tagged Thompson for five runs in the third. While UW did record only two hits in the inning, four walks, two wild pitches and two hit batters fueled the rally. Right fielder Todd Linden plated two runs with a double down the right field line.

WSU finally got on the board in the bottom of the third when sophomore left fielder Evan Hecker drove a ball over the right field fence for his second career home run. Hecker finished the day 2-for-5.

After the Huskies pushed their lead to 7-1 with a run in the fourth, Done led the fifth inning off with his third round-tripper of the year. Washington added four runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth.

The Cougars scored three runs in the ninth which proved to be little consequence. Senior catcher Ryan Smith drove home two runs with his fifth double of the year. Pinch-hitting phenomenon Wes Falkenborg drove home the Cougs' last run with a double down the right field line. Falkenborg is now 7-for-10 with five doubles in pinch-hitting situations. Jordan Nilsen also contributed a good game in the loss going 2-for-3 with a RBI.

The Huskies were led by Jefferson Thiel, Linden and Erickson who each contributed two hits.

The Cougars and Huskies will conclude their brief two-game, non-conference series Wednesday with a 1 p.m. game at Bailey-Brayton Field. Senior Reggie Rivard will go to the hill for the Cougars against UW's sophomore Zack Daniels.
