Cougars Down Eastern Washington

Sept. 24, 1999

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's soccer team remained unbeaten at home after a 6-2 drubbing of Eastern Washington Friday afternoon.

The Cougars got on the board early when Liz Duncan (Richland, Wash.) received a pass from Jen Burrough (University Place, Wash.) at the corner of the 18. Duncan then dribbled to the middle of the 18 and fired a shot past Eastern Washington's goalie for her first-career goal.

Natalie Kehl (Colbert, Wash.) and Katrina Stroh (Federal Way, Wash.) each scored in the 33rd and 34th minutes respectively. Stroh assisted on Kehl's second goal of the season, while Deka DeWitt (Auburn, Wash.) assisted on Stroh's first-career goal.

"The first half started off really well," said WSU coach Dan Tobias. "We had pretty good possession of the ball. Our transition game was working well."

In the second half, DeWitt scored goals in the 48th minute and the 69th minute, to go with her first-half assist. Both of DeWitt's goals were assisted by Christina Pallan (Las Vegas, Nev.).

"She had a couple of great chances," Tobias said. "We try to get her isolated as much as possible. She played good today."

Brianne Carmody (Yakima, Wash.) scored the final goal for WSU at the 83 minute mark.

WSU (4-3) took a 3-0 lead into halftime and extended it to 4-0 before Eastern Washington got on the scoreboard.

Gonzaga visits Washington State on Sunday at 1 p.m. for WSU's final non-conference home match.

NOTES DeWitt is the second Cougar in history to amass 50 points in a season. It was her sixth multiple-goal match of her career...DeWitt set a career-high with 10 shots on goal vs Eastern Washington... Both DeWitt (8) and Pallan (7) moved into the top 10 in school history for assists... The six goals scored by the Cougs were the most since WSU routed Gonzaga 7-0 on October 22, 1995.
