PULLMAN, Wash. - After suffering a disappointing loss to Idaho on Monday,
the Cougars made sure they had no let downs in Friday's 3-0 defeat of
Louisville at Cougar Soccer Field.
The Cougs (2-1) scored the game's first goal at the 40-minute mark in the
first half, when Kristin Mak (Redmond, Wash.) received a cross in the
18-yard box from Meagin Donovan (Noblesville, Ind.) and hit a shot passed
Louisville goalie Jordan Fredriksen for the goal.
"Nice ball from Meagin Donovan," said WSU coach Dan Tobias. "Good
first-time finish by Mak. She played well today."
WSU dominated play in the second half, enjoying many scoring opportunities.
The Cougars did cash in on two of their chances with the goals coming just
two minutes and 17 seconds apart.
Christina Pallan (Las Vegas, Nev.) took a pass from Deka DeWitt (Auburn,
Wash.) inside the 18 and beat the goalie one-on-one for her first goal of
the season.
The final goal by Niki Ironside (Kent, Wash.) was scored from 20-yards out
after Fredriksen punched Beth Childs' (Snoqualmie, Wash.) corner kick out
of the box.
"I thought two good training sessions this week helped," Tobias said. "We
definitely stepped on the field expecting to do well. Our defense did a
much better job today."
WSU goalkeeper Lindsey Jorgensen had to make only three saves as Louisville
(1-3) attempted only four shots all game. The shutout is Jorgensen's
second on the season and eighth career.
The Cougars will step on the field again on Sunday when they take on the
Wyoming Cowboys at noon.
