Marv Harshman

Three universities, including Washington State, were the benefactors of long coaching stints by Marv Harshman. The Pacific Lutheran graduate started his career at his alma mater with a 13-year stint, moved to Washington State for 13 years and finished his 40-year coaching career at Washington. Harshman’s teams won over 600 games, made five trips to the NCAA Championships and captured six conference titles. Three times, his Cougars finished conference runner-up to a John Wooden coached national championship team at UCLA. He was the 1984 NCAA Division I Coach of the Year and received the Metropolitan Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for his contributions to the game in 1987. He became a member of the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. Harshman was inducted to the Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Hall of Honor in 2003 and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
