Lee Orr

Lee Orr was one of the most versatile and powerful runners in American track history. Orr set WSU records in 100 and 220-yard dashes as a freshman in 1936 and represented his native Canada in the Berlin Olympic Games where he finished fifth in the 200-meter dash, behind Jesse Owens. He equaled the world record of 21.2 seconds in his quarterfinal race leading up to the finals. Orr won eight Pacific Coast Conference titles during his years at WSC. Additionally, Orr was the 1940 NCAA champion in the 440-yard run. He was also a member of WSU's world record mile relay team in 1937, along with his brother Jack, and was the school record holder for the outdoor 220 and 440 events.
