The adage quality over quantity was never more appropriate than when describing Jerome Harrison’s Washington State football career. The Ghost, as he was affectionately known to Cougar fans, spent only two seasons in Pullman, but in that short time put together one of the more impressive careers in school annals. In 2005, his senior campaign, Harrison exploded for a school-record and NCAA-best 1,900 yards in 11 games, to go with 16 rushing touchdowns, another school record. He set a conference-record with 14-straight, 100-plus yard games dating back to the 2004 season. He was a consensus All-American, the fifth in school history, finished ninth in the Heisman voting and was a Doak Walker finalist. Harrison established or tied seven school records, three career records, two single-game marks and finished his brief WSU career fifth on the all-time rushing list with 2,800 yards. He later spent seven years in the NFL after being a fourth-round selection of the Cleveland Browns in the 2006 NFL Draft. As with the Cougars, Harrison left his mark on Cleveland fans when on December 20, 2009, he rushed for a franchise record 284 yards and three touchdowns. In his NFL career he rushed for 1,681 yards and seven touchdowns.
