Janet Harmon
- Induction:
- 2006
- Class:
- 1952
A two-sport athlete from Washington State, Janet Harman combined a brilliant sports career with teaching. As a Cougar, she competed in field hockey, but bowling was where she really excelled. A 1952 Washington State graduate, Harman was a member of the Cougars’ first women’s bowling team. She was a polished bowler when she arrived in Pullman having set the all-time women’s league record in Walla Walla at age 15. In 1963, Harman set a Women’s International Bowling Congress record with a 792 series, including a perfect 300 in her final game. Her accomplishment was featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd. The Oregon Female Athlete of the Year in 1956 and Southern California Bowler of the Year in 1962 and 1964, Harman won the Professional Women’s Bowling Association national title in 1963. The WIBC welcomed her to its hall of fame in 1985.
